Talmadge B. Ballance

Talmadge B. Ballance, age 91, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Glade Valley Rehabilitation Center in Walkersville, MD.
He was born March 20, 1922 in Lake Landing, Hyde County, North Carolina, the only child of the late Harold J. and Katie Marie Litchfield Ballance. He was the husband of the late Elsie Cox Ballance who predeceased him on October 19, 2003. They had been married 55 years.
Mr. Ballance, had retired in 1980, from Springfield State Center as an LPN, with 35 years’ service.
He proudly served the United States Army, serving during World War II, from 1942-1946. He was stationed in Hawaii after invasion of Pearl Harbor, and Japan, to name a few places. He was a staff sergeant in with Company E 390th Infantry.
Mr. Ballance was a member of Mt. Airy Gold Start Post 191 and Four Counties VFW Post 1076 of Mt. Airy. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Westminster Elks Lodge #2277. He served as Tyler for 45 years. He was a longtime volunteer at the Elks Lodge #2277, well known for his fried chicken and cooking dinners on Friday nights. He was very active up until just weeks before his death. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He will be surely missed by many.
He especially enjoyed when the whole family would get together for Saturday dinners at his home. He was very proud of his chicken and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki L. Deardorff and husband Roland of Mt. Airy; his daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Ballance of Dundalk, MD; four grandchildren, Bryan Deardorff, Matthew Deardorff, both of Mt. Airy, Steven Ballance of Frederick, MD and Katie Ballance of Dundalk, MD. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Millie Cox of Engelhard, North Carolina, Brother in law Jimmy Cox and wife Vicky of Belhaven, North Carolina, and cousin and life time best friend Vernon and wife Betty Ballance of Engelhard, North Carolina.
Besides his wife he was predeceased by his son, Kenneth B. Ballance in 2008.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, A Memorial Service will be at 8:00 PM by the Westminster Elks Lodge #2277,: Funeral Service will be held on Thursday September 19, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Barnhart officiating.
Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD.
