Ruritans auction slated for Saturday

The Pantego Ruritans will shake things up this weekend by introducing an auction to their cycle of fundraisers.
“This is actually our first one,” said Hank Stoop, secretary of the Pantego Ruritans.
Proceeds raised at the auction will go to the organization’s scholarship fund.
Stoop has been a member of the Ruritans for more than 15 years. He said the group has provided scholarships for at least as long as he has been a part of it.
“We’ve been having spaghetti supper and bingo for so long, that we decided to try different things in order to raise money,” Stoop said.
The live auction will offer a mix of new and old items donated by club members and local businesses. So far, the list includes a bicycle, a four-wheeler, a lamp and other household items.
The Ruritans will continue to add to the list of items today, from 1 to 6 p.m. Stoop invited those who have something to donate or would like to preview what will go up for auction to stop by.
The auction starts at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Pantego Ruritan building. The Ruritans will open early to give bidders another opportunity to preview the goods.
Hot dogs, beans and drinks will be sold at the event.
The Pantego Ruritans meet at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in their building located on U.S. Highway 264 in the heart of Pantego. For more information about the event, call Hank Stoop at 943-8104.
