Robert Gray Womble

Mr. Robert Gray Womble, age 72, a resident of 6255 Clarks Neck Road, Washington died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Pastor Todd Parrish and Pastor David Linton.
Mr. Womble was born in Edgecombe County on July 29, 1941. He was the son of the late John Henry Womble and Mary Louise Padgett Womble. Mr. Womble served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He was a retired millwright and a pilot. Mr. Womble loved to fly so much that he learned to fly before he learned to drive a car. In his spare time, he loved to ride his motorcycle and often rode with the Freedom Riders. He attended First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington.
On June 24, 1977, Mr. Womble married the former Connie Elizabeth Ivey, who survives.
Surviving with his wife, Connie are his children, Sharron Womble Bowen and her husband, Ray of Chocowinity and their children, Michael and Matthew; Robert Gray Womble, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Bear Grass and their children, Amanda Gray Womble and Robert Matthew Womble; Michael Gray Womble of Virginia Beach, Va.; Missy Hope Langley of Washington;, and Thomas Alton Womble and wife, Cynthia of the home and their children, Nadia Korine Voth, Chloe Sophia Harris, Thomas Alton Womble, Jr.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Womble was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Lewis Womble, Valerie Drew, Linwood Womble, Thomas Cooper Womble, John Womble, Marie Waters, and Kathleen Womble.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home, 6255 Clarks Neck Road, Washington.
