Pack blasts Bruins to take first

The Pam Pack’s knack for second half magic continued on Friday as Washington scored 26 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters to capture a 33-7 win over Beddingfield and sole possession of first place in the Eastern Plains Conference.
“It was a big win. Beddingfield has a good football team,” Washington coach Sport Sawyer said. “They came out and scored seven points right away. Offensively we sputtered in the first half, but in the second half the guys came out and got a little life in them.”
It was a special night for Washington fans on many levels as the school honored former running back Travis Daniels, ace pitcher Charity Watson, three-sport star Adrian Bowen and the undefeated 1947 football team during its Walk of Fame ceremony at halftime.
After the ceremony, the Washington defense continued its presentation on pass rush as they harassed the Bruins in the backfield to blank them over the course third and fourth quarters.
The Bruins (5-4, 2-1) drew first blood as they scored on an 86-yard option pass on their first play of the game to take a 7-0 lead. However, they would not see the end zone again.
Washington (7-2, 3-0) tweaked its defensive alignment by shifting athletic defensive end Stevie Green to nose tackle and the move was a smashing success.
Aside from an occasional big play by Beddingfield, the Pam Pack defense smothered the Bruins attack, causing five turnovers, two of which led directly to touchdowns.
Linebacker Karim Topping’s first-quarter interception set the stage for a 20-yard TD pass from Green to Jamond Ebron to tie the score at 7-7, where it would stay until halftime.
In the third quarter Washington caused the Bruins to go three-and-out on their first possession, leading to a 46-yard scoring drive that ended with a two-yard TD run by Green to go up 13-7.
Linebacker Brandon Jackson picked off a Bruins pass on their next possession, but fumbled the ball to give it back to them at their own 16. It didn’t matter, as minutes later the Bruins fumbled the ball and Topping recovered it in the end zone to go ahead up 19-7.
The Pam Pack would punctuate its third quarter run by completing a 40-yard scoring drive that was highlighted by a 38-yard Green run an ended when he glided into the end zone from two yards out.
Green scored his third TD early in the fourth to put Washington ahead 33-7.
