A funeral will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Second Baptist Church in Washington, with the Rev. Scott Setzer officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

Mrs. Woolard was born in Pinetown on Nov. 14, 1930, the daughter of the late Robert Sherman and Hattie Waters Eaton. She was a 1949 graduate of Bath High School, and in 1990, she completed the Nurse Aide program at Beaufort County Community College. On July 30, 1949, she married Vernon Allen Woolard, who preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1989. Mrs. Woolard was a homemaker, and later, she worked as a nurse aide at Britthaven Nursing Home (now River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center) in Washington. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Washington.

When the North Carolina Estuarium opened in 1998, Mrs. Woolard became one of its first volunteers, and she remained there until the summer of 2013, working the Saturday afternoon shift virtually every week.  She was twice given the Volunteer of the Year award and also earned the Live Oak award for her continuous service.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Woolard and his wife Delora of Emerald Isle and Russell Woolard and his wife Robin of Leesburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Letha Marie Woolard and Benjamin Woolard; a sister, Dorothy Eaton Daversa of Columbia, S.C., and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Woolard was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie Robert Swindell and Grady Holmes Eaton, and a sister, Barbara Eaton Swindell.

The family will receive visitors at Second Baptist Church one hour prior to the service. Following the interment, a reception in Mrs. Woolard’s honor will be held at the North Carolina Estuarium.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the North Carolina Estuarium (223 E. Water St. Washington, N.C. 27889), Second Baptist Church (2516 W. 5th St. Washington, N.C. 27889), or a charity of the donor’s choice.
