BELHAVEN — Plays by the Way off Broadway Players of Belhaven often have a lot in common.
“They’re funny and silly,” said George Wahab, director of the WOB plays. “There’s a lot of bantering and good wordplay.”
Wahab recently discovered there is a reason the plays had so much in common. All were written by Jack Sharkey. The playwright wrote under four other names (Rick Abbot, Monk Ferris, Mark Chandler and Mike Johnson).
“This man was prolific,” Wahab said.
The WOB Players will tackle Sharkey’s “Saving Grace” Nov. 21-23 at 8 p.m. in The WOB Theatre, 487 Pamlico St.
The play is about a woman named Grace, her boss and a telephone repairman.
“Grace’s boss has been flirting with her for four years,” Wahab said. “She finally invites him to her house. … When her sister arrives and finds the repairman in his underwear, the boss wielding a camera and Grace in a skimpy outfit, things begin to sizzle.”
The cast and crew include Mary Wahab, Aaron Stevens, M.D. Coleman, Vickie Armstrong, Butch Jones and Fran Coleman.
Wahab also has a role. He said he ran out of actors. The director often persuades people to join the players. The actors rehearse twice a week for two and a half months.
Wahab said “Saving Grace” is well worth the commitment. But there is no need to take his word for it — see the play.
