At the bequest of its members, the Beaufort County Concert Association scheduled a Sunday matinee concert. The Gothard Sisters, Irish folk-dancing violinists, will take Washington High School’s Performing Arts Building stage at 3 p.m.
“It’s been forever since we did that,” said BCCA’s Jerrie Oughton.
The daytime event was the result of a survey taken last season. The nonprofit organization learned that several members preferred not to drive after dark.
“A large group wanted a matinee concert because driving at night is an issue among some of our older members,” Oughton said.
Like the seasons before them, the shows were booked through a talent agency in Nashville.
“Sometimes we think about stepping outside the box, but this is such a perfect way to do it,” Oughton said. “We fly into Nashville then see these 29, 30 shows in one weekend.”
The Gothard Sisters were a last-minute addition. Scheduling conflicts prevented them from performing during the typical weeknights BCCA was trying to book, but a Sunday matinee was possible.
Oughton and her husband auditioned the Gothard Sisters.
“But they didn’t know they could come until the last minute and just sang a ditty at the mike,” Oughton said. “I gather they’re Irish and river dance while playing their fiddles and jump around and are blonde and beautiful. There you go. What else could make a healthy, middle-aged man give up Sunday afternoon football?”
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets at the door start at $25. For more information, go to gobcca.org.
