Pamlico authors speak at River Walk Sunday

River Walk Gallery invited two writers to Sunday Tea.
The gallery periodically holds “teas,” which are afternoon lectures and readings featuring people with local ties.
River Walk artist Jayne Wall said Sunday’s readings will come from “deeply-rooted homeboys” Billy Carter and Sam Mordecai.
“Both men have written books about their beloved hometown,” Wall said.
Carter is the author of “Pamlico,” a nostalgic look at Beaufort County.
“If I can succeed in bottling the ambiance created by a Pamlico sunset–viewed from a swing beneath the oaks–as it burnishes the stark cypress trunks and backlights jumping mullet,” writes Carter. “Then I will have the cure for whatever ails most of us.”
Mordecai wrote “Praying in Pamlico,” a comedy set in Washington full of lively Southern personalities who may sound familiar, but come from the mind of the author.
“They are as different as any two books about almost the same subject could be, and that subject is Washington and its river,” Wall said. “Read Carter for the river in all its moods and Mordecai for the people in a small town where anything could and would happen at anytime.”
Join the writers for Tea at River Walk Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. Both authors will read from their latest work and field questions.
The gallery is located at 139 West Main in downtown Washington. For more information, call 252-974-0400.
