Tyrrell County Volunteer Fire Department to Hold Rock Fish Tournament on December 7

The Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first annual Rock Fish Tournament on Saturday, December 7.

Three cash prizes for the biggest catches are $500, $200, and $100. A $100 prize will be awarded for the largest fish caught in the contest.

A barbecue dinner will be provided for all fishermen at the weigh-in station under the tent on the Shipwreck Cargo lot on South Water Street. Contestants may arrive via the Scuppernong River or park their trailers in the Visitors Center parking lot on Scuppernong Drive. Fire Department Auxiliary members will be serving soup and sandwiches all day under the tent.

Tournament starts at 6 a.m., and weigh-in is between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Weigh-in will be three fish per person.

North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission rules and regulations will apply. Ages 16 and under must be accompanied by a guardian.

Boundaries for the tournament are Albemarle Sound between Alligator River and NC 32/94 bridge, Alligator River, and Alligator-Pungo canal northeast of Fairfield bridge.

Approved launch marinas and ramps are Wildlife ramp and Cypress Cove Marina on Scuppernong River, Alligator River Marina, Frying Pan Landing, and Gum Neck Landing on Alligator River.

Pre-registration is $50 per boat for up to two people and $25 more for each additional person. Event day registration is $65.

Deadline for entry form is November 29. Entry forms received after that date will be penalized with a $15.00 late fee.

Thse who fail to pre-register must attend a meeting at 6-8 a.m., the day of the tournament at the Wildlife boat ramp on Ramp Road off NC 94 North at Columbia. To reach that boat launch facility from the west, take

US 64 toward Columbia. After passing Travis Road (Exit 562) take next left onto NC Hwy 94 North, then take next right onto Ramp Road and proceed to end of street. From the east: Take US 64 through Columbia. After crossing bridge take first right onto NC Hwy 94 North, then take first right onto Ramp Road and proceed to end of Street.
