Solid team defense and a three-touchdown effort by Josiah Jennette allowed the Washington Patriots to top the Washington Panthers 22-14 to capture a Super Bowl victory in the flag football division of the Community Youth Football League on Saturday at Washington High School.
“We’re really excited,” Patriots coach Austin Smithwick said. “The team worked hard this year. They played really good football and really smart football and I’m really happy for the kids.”

The Patriots (9-1) took a 6-0 lead when Jennette scored from two yards out in the first half.
The Panthers (7-3) answered a few minutes later as Camron Whitley broke off a 55-yard TD run and Tycaryous McIver scored the two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead.
Whitley would later throw a 23-yard TD pass to Gabe Davis and score a two-point conversion in the second half, but it would not be enough to overcome the Patriots.
At the end of the day, the Panthers were thrilled to make it to the Super Bowl and claim second place in the flag division.
“I’m so excited for these guys. It’s been a great journey all year,” Panthers coach Scott Whitley said. “We started out 0-2 and I didn’t think in the beginning of the season we would be here, but these guys played with a lot of heart and it’s been a pleasure to coach these guys.”
Down 8-6, the Patriots reclaimed the lead when Jennette caught a 50-yard TD pass from Braden Smithwick to go up 14-8 at the end of the first half.
The Patriots padded their lead at the start of the second when Jennette scrambled for a 22-yard touchdown run. Braden Smithwick would score the two-point conversion as the Pats went ahead 22-8.
Jennette’s three scores were crucial, but Smithwick said it took a team effort to capture the crown.
“Josiah is a really fast kid and he played a good football game,” Smithwick said. “But, the reason why he was able to score was that the whole team blocked really well. I was really proud of our entire team with how they blocked and executed.”
