Pot smuggling into jail leads to arrest

A Washington man being processed at the Beaufort County Detention Center, got a new charge when he attempted to smuggle marijuana into the jail, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

On Nov. 15, Charles Jeron Whitaker, 19, of North Bonner Street, Washington, had been arrested by Washington Police officers, charged with misdemeanor assault, and was undergoing the intake procedure strip search when a detention officer found a plastic baggie of marijuana hidden between the inmate’s buttocks, according to the release.

Whitaker was charged with possession of a controlled substance on premises of a local confinement facility and held on an additional $5,000 secured bond.
