Mavis Kathryn Elks Woolard

Mrs. Mavis Kathryn Elks Woolard, age 83, a former resident of the Old Ford community, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Derik Davis.
The following will serve as pallbearers: her grandsons, Richard E. Gerard III, Zachary S. Woolard, Nathaniel C. Woolard, and Gary L. “Buddy” Woolard, Jr. with Joey Rogers and Ken Harris.
Mrs. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on March 12, 1930. She was the daughter of the late James Stanley Elks and Ollie M. Elks. dMrs. Woolard was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a homemaker and was a sales associate at Wal-Mart for 15 years. On April 24, 1948, she married Dick Woolard who preceded her in death, June 30, 1992.
Mrs. Woolard is survived by two daughters, Sandy Gerard and husband, Richard, of Washington, Patsy Johnson and husband, Keith of New Berlin, Wisconsin; two sons, F. Steve Woolard and wife, Almeta of Washington, Tony Woolard of Winterville; two brothers, Dalton Elks and wife, Shirley, Ralph Elks and wife, Vivian all of Chocowinity; twelve grandchildren: Zachary Woolard (Susan), Nathaniel Woolard (Lisa), Susannah W. Berry (Jason), Richard Gerard, III (Sandra), Deanna G. Anderson (Jim), Alison G. Carroll (Wes), Cathy W. Silverthorne (Bobby), Gary L. “Buddy” Woolard, Jr.(Sarah), Taylor Johnson (Chauncie), Tanner Johnson, Caleb Woolard, SaraBeth Woolard; and nine great grandchildren: Finner Woolard, Gretchen Berry, Carter Anderson, Reese Anderson, Emma Claire Carroll, Marshall Carroll, Dylan Silverthorne, Mya Woolard, and Sage Woolard.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Woolard was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Sue Woolard; a son, Gary Lynn Woolard; five sisters and four brothers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, December 2, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Richard Gerard, 4960 Market Street Ext., Washington.
