AlexSandra Lett is coming to town.
The five-time author and founder of several companies will have a book signing at Cottage Junkies in downtown Washington from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday
Lett connected with Cottage Junkies owners Landis and Tricia Woolard after scheduling a free three-hour workshop at Beaufort County Community College for Tuesday night.
Cottage Junkies has been in business for one year and marked the milestone with a ribbon-cutting Nov. 29. Lett will be their first book-signing event.
Lett started writing in 1998 because she “longed for something more and decided to find her authentic self,” according to a media release from Lett.
After retreating to a small cabin in the woods, Lett found her voice through “a wise and witty alter ego” named Sandy Lynn.
Lett started writing articles and found that readers enjoyed her anecdotes about her grandpa’s country store, which was located across the road from the family farm near Sanford.
She followed the success of the articles with her books: “A Timeless Place,” “Lett’s Set a Spell at the Country Store,” “Timeless Moons,” “Timeless Recipes and Remedies” and “Coming Home to My Country Heart.”
Lett will have a few of the books on hand and will share stories about growing up in rural North Carolina.
In Tuesday night’s workshop, Getting Publicity Through All Types of Media, Lett will offer insights on how to get one’s name in the news.
“Articles in the newspaper or a minute on radio or television can tremendously enhance a company’s image,” she said.
The workshop will cover writing a news release that attracts attention, the proper protocol to follow in order to publicize a business or event and how to use mainstream media and social-media sites.
“I’m amazed at people that don’t know how to write a news release,” Lett said.
She used her experience with media and marketing to position herself as an author and professional speaker, speaking at various community colleges.
Getting Publicity Through All Types of Media will be presented by BCCC’s Business and Industry Services in Building 8, Room 828, from 6 to 9 p.m. To register, call 940-6306.
