Mary Ann Kaplan, 71, of Washington, North Carolina died December 6, 2013. She was born August 5, 1942 in Euclid, Ohio.

 

Mary Ann grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio University in Athens. While there she met and later married Fred Kaplan, her husband of 47 years.

 

Her interests included gardening, reading, cooking, rooting for the Duke Blue Devils and Pittsburgh Steelers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends in the Allegheny National Forest. She was at peace having her hands in the dirt. She successfully gardened vegetables and flowers in Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. In addition, she had a successful sales career with several Cleveland, Ohio, based industrial firms.

 

Mary Ann was the proud mother of three daughters and loving Grammie of 7 granddaughters and 5 grandsons.

 

She is survived by her loving husband, Fred Kaplan; two brothers and a  sister; three daughters and 12 grandchildren.

 

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 9am at Mother of Mercy Church in Washington, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Cypress Landing Bay Club for a catered reception. Interment will follow at a later date in Zanesville, OH.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial be made in Mary Ann’s name to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Foundation, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.
