To the Editor:

Not everyone will have a festive season … ask the victims of domestic violence. This holiday season many women are working to keep their families together and children happy while continuing to silently suffer the onslaught of physical, mental and emotional abuse. Why? Because they desperately want to believe that by staging a Norman Rockwell Christmas with all the trimmings that they may bring peace to their homes, at least for a short time. How sad to know that the suffering of so many continues, especially at this time of the year.

Located right here in Washington, Ruth’s House offers a safe haven for victims of domestic violence.

“We are here to take in the women and children who seek refuge from domestic abuse” says Deb Ryals, board president of Ruth’s House, “and provide services to help them regain independence and their rightful place in the community without the threat of violence. The services of Ruth’s House are available to all victims of domestic violence whether they live in the shelter or not.”
