Mrs. Lina Louise Sawyer Waters, age 85, a former resident of 9078 N.C. Highway 45 North, Belhaven, and a current resident of the Bayview Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center of New Bern died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Carolina East Medical Center of New Bern. Before moving to the Bayview Nursing Home, Mrs. Waters resided at The Courtyards of Bern Village in New Bern.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Bethany Christian Church of Jasper, N.C., officiated by Lee Kirkman. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
A second memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven, officiated by Russell Mann. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Phelps, John Wynn, Chris Hill, Terry McCall Sr., Terry McCall Jr., and Jose Ramirez. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Ponzer Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home of Mrs. Waters’ daughter, Mary Lou O’Neal, located at 26915 U.S. Highway 264 E., Belhaven.
Mrs. Waters was born in Hyde County on Aug. 5, 1928, daughter of the late C. Griffin Sawyer and the late Florida Green Sawyer. On Jan. 21, 1946, she married James Clinton Waters who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1998. She was a homemaker, a former member of Mt. Olive Church of Christ, a current member of Bethany Christian Church of Jasper, a member of the Ponzer Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Ponzer Ruritan Club.
Survivors include a daughter: Mary Lou O’Neal and her husband Max of Belhaven; two sons, Robert Glenn Waters and his wife Cheryl of Bath; and Ray Waters of Williamston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Waters was predeceased by two sisters: Dora Lupton and Marie S. Lawson; and five brothers, Oswald, Alex, Charlie, Gilbert and Hansel Sawyer.
