Hoover Anson Byrd, 60, of 218 North Lake Road, Fairfield, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Born in Dunn, N.C., February 10, 1953, he was the son of Weldon Byrd of Dunn and the late Joyce Davis Byrd. He was married to the former Lora Mooney who survives. He has served on the Hyde County Board of Commissioners for the past 6 years and was a member of Swan Quarter Pentecostal Holiness Church. He worked as a driver with Crop Production Services.
Through his travels he made friends not only at home but also around the world. He was a great outdoorsman and his greatest joy was taking children hunting and fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Fairfield Christian Church. Mike Wheeler and Bill Riley will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his wife and father are a son Jonathan David Byrd and wife, Hend, of Rochester, NY; four daughters, Melissa Byrd of Dunn, Elizabeth Byrd of Raleigh, Rebekah B. Bryant and husband, James of Fayetteville, Hannah Byrd of Fairfield; brothers, Neil Byrd and wife, Debra, of Holly Springs, Kelly Byrd and wife, Barger, and Davis Byrd and wife, Teresa, of Dunn, Eddie Byrd and wife, Julia, and Glenn Byrd and wife, Donna, of Erwin, Chris Byrd and wife, Tammy, of Benson. He was Pa Pa to Habiba, Yusef, Omer, Haleigh, Ryleigh, Anson, Marcus, Cameron, Brianna and James.
