Mrs. Dorothy Upton Craig, age 85, a resident of Broad Creek Road, died Sunday evening January 26, 2014 at Martin General Hospital in Williamston.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday January 31, 2014 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Steve Hill and Mark Lilley. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Phil Black, Phil Garris, Chris Edwards, Greg Boyd, Charlie Ray Davenport and Jason C. Lewis will serve as pallbearers. Frankie Black will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Craig was born in Northampton County on November 7, 1928 daughter of the late Lonnie Mahlon Upton, Sr. and Clemmie Jane Cox Upton. She was a 1947 graduate of Bath High School. She married Edwin Holmes Craig who preceded her in death on July 17, 1979. In 1947, she began working with Carolina Telephone. In 1961, she graduated from the LPN program and worked as a nurse for 23 years at Beaufort County Hospital. She was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.
Mrs. Craig is survived by her son: Wayne Craig and wife Cathy of Washington; her daughter: Christi Renee Craig Bintliff and husband Mark of Durham; her grandchildren: Michael W. Craig and wife Jamie and Kevin S. Craig and wife Kim all of Washington; her great grandchildren: Cameron Craig, Kaycee Craig, Collin Craig and Keegan Craig all of Washington; and her brother: Lonnie M. Upton, Jr. and wife Doris of Newport News, VA.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Virginia Upton Houston and Gladys Upton Almond and her brother: Robert “Bobby” Upton.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of her grandson, Michael Craig located at 7702 Broad Creek Road, Washington.
