Mr. Benjamin Graham Jones, Jr., age 83, a resident of 126 Man-O-War Drive, Washington, NC 27889 died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 3:00 PM Friday, February 14, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Friday, February 14, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
Mr. Jones was born in Hoke County on July 1, 1930. He was the son of the late Benjamin Graham Jones, Sr. and Mayme Grace McGill Jones. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952. In 1953, he joined the National Guard, retiring in 1992 with 40 years of service.
Since 1957, Mr. Jones lived on the Pamlico River. Mr. Jones was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He also loved to read and travel. He visited every state in the Union and traveled abroad. Mr. Jones was a “history buff”, especially related to the Civil War era.
On November 1, 1956, Mr. Jones married the former Alice Margaret Braddy, who survives. Surviving with his wife are three children, Larry Harding and wife, Mary of Washington, Graham Jones and wife, Lynn of Fuquay Varina, Elaine Satterwhite and husband, Jesse of Raleigh; as well as, seven grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son, George Stephen Jones, and a sister, Carolyn Woolard.
