BEAUFORT COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE | CONTRIBUTED IN MEMORY: Flags at Beaufort County Community College were flown at half-staff Friday in honor of Officer Alexander Thalmann, a graduate of the college's Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. Gov. Pat McCrory ordered all flags at state facilities in Craven County to be lowered to half-staff through sunset Friday, the day of Officer Thalmann's funeral. That order was extended to BCCC by President Barbara Tansey, given Officer Thalmann's connection to BCCC and Washington. “Our faculty and staff are also grieving the loss of an exemplary graduate, neighbor and friend,” said Tansey in issuing the order. Officer Thalmann, a New Bern police officer, was killed in the line of duty last week.
