January 17, 1926 – April 8, 2014
Ella May Martin Steppe, age 88, a resident of Duck Creek Rd., Washington passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. There will be a celebration of her life at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 12 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service, officiated by Skip Hurley. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Rebecca Cemetery, Appomattox, VA. The family will receive friends following the service at Hillside Funeral Service and at other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 40 Duck Creek Rd., Washington, NC.
Mrs. Steppe was born January 17, 1926 in Appomattox, VA daughter of the late Eural Atkinson Martin and Ercie Martin. She lived most of her life in Norfolk and worked in retail sales with Miller & Rhodes and Hecht’s Department Store. Mrs. Steppe was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and past president of Miller & Rhodes Retirement Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norfolk and attended Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. Mrs. Steppe had been a resident of Washington for the past 12 years.
Mrs. Steppe is survived by her son, Douglas Franklin Steppe and his wife Cassandra of Washington; her daughter, Ella Diane Furlough of Washington; her grandchildren, Angela Antrican and husband Samuel, Lisa Alligood and husband Manfred and Myra Steppe and fiancé Chase Sterrenberg; and her great grandchildren, Maurissa Steppe, Alana Antrican, Samuel Antrican, , Seamus Antrican, Manfred Alligood, IV and Waylen Sterrenberg.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Steppe was preceded in death by her three brothers and her sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ, 9004 US Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC 27889.
