From the office of Emergency Management, Fire Marshall and Emergency Services

Beaufort County has declared a state of emergency due to the recent severe weather and associated damage. Please abide by the requests of law enforcement and emergency services personnel while this declaration is in effect.

If you have sustained damage to your property or home, please immediately contact your insurance provider. Unless you are a resident of an impacted area, please refrain from entering those areas by vehicle or foot while the state of emergency is in effect. If you are present in an impacted area, be aware of downed power lines and storm debris. Do not enter buildings with severe structural damage.

In the aftermath of tornado and severe storms, citizens may encounter individuals offering to do recovery and /or repair work. Most of the contractors are reputable companies. However, citizens should be aware that some individuals and/or contractors may attempt to overcharge for their services and individuals representing themselves as contractors may not be licensed and/or insured correctly for the work that they are offering to perform. As always, do not pay any fees upfront to a contractor for any work that they promise to perform.

If you have any questions or concerns about a particular contractor, feel free to contact Beaufort County Inspections Department at 252-946-7182. They may be able to provide information regarding the contractor in question.
