WILLIE “BILL” PRUITT

Feb. 10, 1927 – April 28, 2014

 

Willie (Bill) Pruitt, age 87, a Retired Veteran of the Armed Forces, of 3481 Harvey Road, Washington, NC died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 28, 2014. He was a member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hamilton Pruitt.
Mr. Pruitt was born February 10, 1927, in Celina, Tennessee. He was the son of the late John Albert and Verdia Key Pruitt. He was a retired USAF Veteran, serving 23 years of active duty. His tours included World War II, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam and the Cuban Crisis. Mr. Pruitt was the recipient of various medals, commendations, and awards, including the Purple Heart. After his military service, he worked as a Planner for Texas Gulf from 1969 to 1982.
Survivors include three daughters, Sondra Alligood Cooke and Sharon Alligood Padgett and her husband Allen, both of Washington and Cathy Alligood Slade and her husband Mike of Bath, sisters, Melia Davis of Ellisville, Indiana and Florence Green of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee and sister-in-law Mattie Pruitt of Lafeyette, Tennessee. His grandchildren include Darrell Cooke and Michael Cooke both of Greenville, Tracey Slade Nixon and her husband Jerry of Bath, Gerrit Slade and his wife Kim of Kodiak, Alaska, Kenny Alligood and his wife Betsy and Tina Lomeli of Tampa, Florida. His great-grand children include Makayla and Lakeland Cooke of Greenville, Tristen Nixon of Bath and Micah and Zoe Slade of Kodiak, Alaska. He was preceded in death by two sons, Kenny Alligood, Sr. and David Alligood, both of Washington.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 the day of the funeral and other times at his home. Pallbearers will be Mike Slade, Jerry Wynne, Gary Jordan, Michael Cooke, Darrell Cooke and Kenny Alligood. Skip Hurley will be officiating the services and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
