On Thursday May 8th at 9:45am the Tyrrell County 911 Center recieved a call that a vehicle had struck a tractor/mower on U.S. 64 app 10 miles east of Columbia. Tyrrell Fire Dept., Washington Tyrrell EMS, Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office, Dare EMS and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded. It was determined that a contract mower with N.C.D.O.T. was traveling East on U.S. 64 when it was struck in the rear by an SUV also traveling East on U.S. 64. The SUV rolled over several times landing on the North shoulder of U.S. 64. The driver of the SUV was flown by Wake Med. Helicopter to Vidant Medical Center. The passenger was transported by Dare EMS to Outerbanks Hospital. The driver of the tractor was not injured. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
