David Duguid were married on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at five o’clock in the evening at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington. The Reverend
Benjamin J. Kifer officiated. Dinner and dancing followed the ceremony at the Edgewater Beach home of the bride’s parents.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mann Phillips of Washington. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bennett Carowan of Washington and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Winfield Phillips, also of Washington.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ian McLean Duguid of Edinburgh , Scotland. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. David Walker Duguid of Paisley, Scotland and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Duff of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Brian Robert Decker of Chicago, Illinois, Lauren Elizabeth Ellis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mrs. Jose Maria Buzon Gutierrez of Boston, Massachusetts, Catherine Elizabeth Horney of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sarah Elizabeth Neikirk of New York, New York, Elizabeth Aaron Sermons of Durham, North Carolina, Alexandra Leslie
Speros of Nashville, Tennessee and Eleanor
Harriss Weathersbee of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jamie Alexander McLean Duguid, brother of the groom of St. Petersburg, Florida served as best man. Groomsmen were Samuel Duvall of Washington, DC, Tom Herbert of Hong Kong, China, Michael Mercer of Houston, Texas, Charles Mann Phillips, Jr., brother of the bride of Washington and Struan Samson of London, England.
Caroline Elizabeth Phillips, cousin of the bride of Washington read the scripture. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Robert Edgar Long III, cousin of the bride of New York, New York. Ms. Janet Anderson Bradbury and Mrs. George Frederick Scales directed the ceremony.
After graduating from Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, North Carolina, the bride earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh at the 2007 North Carolina Debutante Ball.
The groom graduated from Stewart’s Melville College in Edinburgh, Scotland and Bristol University in Bristol, England where he received his Bachelor of Law degree. He also earned a Master of Law degree from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He currently works as a tennis agent for Lagardere Unlimited in Los Angeles, California.
To celebrate the couple’s engagement, a party was held on December 21, 2013 at the home of the groom’s parents in Edinburgh. A bridesmaids’ luncheon, hosted by friends of the bride was held the day before the wedding at the Washington home of Mrs. Claude Swanson Graves, III. On the eve of the wedding a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at the Washington Yacht and Country Club followed by an after rehearsal party given by family and friends.
After a honeymoon in Paris, France the couple will reside in Marina Del Rey, California.
