Jasper Gray Swain
Oct. 15, 1936 – May 25, 2014

Jasper Gray Swain was born in Pinetown, NC on October 15, 1936 to Kenneth Carl and Ruth Gray Swain. He passed away May 25, 2014 in Charlotte, NC where he lived and raised a family for 49 years. He was 77 years old when he left this world. He left behind a wife, Barbara Luke Swain, sons John Swain, Tim Swain, his wife Cheri Swain and his grand daughter Clara Elizabeth Swain. Jasper was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Todd Swain who died as an infant. His brothers and sisters: Paulene Willard and husband Red, Elwood Swain & wife Cecilia, Jimmy Swain and wife Patsy, and Teresa Ann Mays & husband David along with numerous nephews and nieces. Stepsons Chad Luke, wife Shawn and grand-son Taylor Davis Luke, Preston Luke, wife Rachel, and grandchildren Annie Jo, Sophie, Jacob, and Ellie. Just as important as the people he left behind were the memories and love he had for all of those that knew him.

Jasper had a wonderful sense of humor and a real talent for telling stories of his childhood and family. He enjoyed matching wits with people, especially his sons, fishing, working, and spending time with his family.

Jasper was raised on a farm and lived there until he left for college. He went to school at Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, NC and at Kansas State while he was in the military and stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He valued education above almost everything. He said that no one can take away what’s between our ears.

Jasper Swain was an entrepreneur in the truest sense of the word. He started Chem-Way Corporation in August of 1971 and nurtured it to a thriving business. He retired in November of 2006. We know he would like to thank all of Chem-Way Corporations’ family, both past and present, for their service and friendship. He said that no business was any better than its people.

Visitation will be at 1:30 PM on Saturday May 31, 2014 at the McEwen-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd, in Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held immediately afterwards at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Bath Elementary Good Will Account, a fund that helps children with autism and other special needs, at Bath Elementary School, 110 South King Street, Bath, NC 27808.
