On Monday, Waffle House on Carolina Avenue in Washington will open its doors for the first time at 7 a.m.

Waffle House, which has three locations in Greenville, had a test run Thursday morning in Washington. The business opened its doors to Washington city officials and others for four hours to try their food for the first time.
Meals on Thursday were paid for by Waffle House as a way of saying thank you, according to Dustin Miller, head of restaurant operations. During the silent opening on Thursday, customers had to wait in a short line to get a table.

“We are very excited to be here in Washington,” said Miller. “We’re going to be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, starting Monday at 7 a.m.”

Because Waffle House is new to Washington, the 50 new employees had to commute between Greenville and Washington daily to learn and train for their new job.

“That (putting people to work) is our number one priority for us,” Miller said. “We’re here for our associates and the community that we are in. We have been in business since 1955.”

Waffle House’s goal is to try and give its patrons a diner experience similar to the diners from the early twentieth century, according to Miller.

“Our menu hasn’t changed a whole lot since 1955,” Miller said. “We serve grits and hash browns and waffles, which is our signature item. We also have a full menu available 24 hours a day.”

Beside breakfast food, Waffle House also serves steaks, pork chops and chicken.

“One of the things we provide is a show too, because we don’t work off tickets,” Miller said. “Our servers call the orders to a grill operator and the grill operator cooks the food right there for everybody to see.”

As a new member of the community, Waffle House says it will assist in community activities and provide fundraising opportunities.
