On Monday, June 9 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., the Pizza Inn on Carolina Avenue in Washington will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the Beaufort County Alzheimer’s Walk and Education Fair.
Pizza Inn is sponsoring a dough-nation fundraiser for the September 27 walk to assist Jane Bass and her team in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease, Bass said.
In North Carolina, 170,000 people are affected by Alzheimer’s and numbers are expected to quadruple by the year 2025, according to Alzheimer’s North Carolina.
Hank McClenney, Pizza Inn manager said this is Pizza Inn’s fourth year to help the tenth annual Beaufort County Alzheimer’s Walk and Education Fair.
Bass said she and her team began organizing the fundraiser in February. They wanted to start collecting money for the walk early so they could have more opportunities to fundraise before the walk.
“We did the Pizza Inn fundraiser last year and raised $500 to $600,” Bass said.
Not only will Bass collect the 10 percent in proceeds from Pizza Inn in the section of the restaurant patrons are placed in — they will accept tips from customers as well.
“Pizza Inn has been successful with these events because of the community, and we’re in a situation where we can help out,” said McClenney. “That’s what we do, we give Monday nights to organizations that want to get their information out to the public.”
In August, Bass and her teammates will have another fundraising effort for the Alzheimer’s foundation at Bojangles on Carolina Avenue in Washington.
“This event is great for Alzheimer’s North Carolina, this will help raise a lot money,” Bass said. “On Monday, there will be professionals there to answer any questions and hand out information about the disease.”
