Justus “J.G.” Smith, Jr.
June 15, 1942 – June 19, 2014

Mr. Justus Greenwood “J.G.” Smith, Jr., age 72 a resident of 1967 Seed Tick Neck Road, Pinetown, NC died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Bud Ball and Raymond Lagcher. Burial will follow at Sidney Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Brad Smith, Matt Smith, Wayne Howell, Jr. Lance Swindell, Brandon Berry, John Cox, Don Cox and Ricky Windley will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Smith was born in Beaufort County on June 15, 1942 to the late Justus Greenwood Smith and Gladys Irene Jackson. Mr. Smith attended John A. Wilkinson High School. On March 9, 1959, Mr. Smith married Linda Gale Gaylord, who survives. “J.G.” was the owner/operator of Smith Land Development, Inc. He accepted Christ as his Savior in 2008 and had attended Hunter’s Bridge Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife Gale, Mr. Smith is survived by one daughter: Candy Howell and husband Wayne of Pinetown, NC, two sons: Jay Smith and wife Wadine of Cove City, NC and Grant Smith and wife Jennifer of Pinetown, NC two brothers: Robert O. Smith of Roper, NC and  Joseph H. Smith and wife Holly of Ocracoke, NC, a brother-in-law: David Verdin of Austell, Ga., one sister: Sarah Windley of Ellis Cove in Belhaven, NC, seven grandchildren: Ashley Howell Swindell and husband Lance, Wayne Howell, Jr., Jamie Berry and husband Brandon, Brad Smith, Matt Smith, Emily Smith and Hannah Smith. Mr. Smith was eagerly anticipating his first great grandson due in October.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by a sister, Jean Verdin.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home located at 1967 Seed Tick Neck Road, Pinetown, NC, 27865.
