Mrs. Eva Mae Harrell Barrington, 97, went to hug Jesus on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 3 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Eva Mae was born on May 22, 1917 in Perquimans County to the late William T. and Gertie Byrum Harrell. She was raised on the family farm and in 1936 married Luther E. Barrington, a farmer, who preceded her in death in 1971.
Eva Mae spent 25 years working in the ladies apparel business in Washington. She was a longtime and devoted member of Proctor Memorial Christian Church in Grimesland, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and on the board. She was loved by all who came in contact with her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, TT Harrell and Willie Manning Harrell; and sisters, Cornie Cannon and Sadie Carley. She is survived by her: sons, Luther Harrell Barrington, of Burlington and Billy C. Barrington and wife, Deborah, of Greenville; four grandchildren, Kenny Barrington and wife, Patricia, Allison Rainey and husband, Tim, all of Burlington, Tim Barrington and wife, Tani, and Chris Barrington and wife, Nickole, all of Oregon; five great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary “Hert” Staton; sister in-law, Emily Harrell; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Elaine Bridgman; and her loving caregiver of nine years, Wanda Cobb. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
