To the Editor,
It is time to publically thank several people and groups. David Cucchiara and the WDN provided wonderful coverage of our “Cinderella” season. The coverage kept the community informed about how our season was unfolding and kept them excited as we traveled to Raleigh to compete in the NCHSAA Girls’ 2A Soccer Championship. Many of the girls on the team have been playing soccer year around since elementary school for the Riptides travel teams here in Washington and other teams in eastern NC. We would like to thank all of those coaches that helped mold us over the years. This culmination of years of experience along with the belief that WHS coach Ed Rodriquez (and the rest of the WHS faculty) had in us propelled us to do great things. Today the soccer team met at WHS to finalize our “Championship” rings. For that we thank Mr. Holloman, Principal of WHS.
No, we didn’t win the state championship in Raleigh, but we did break all soccer records at WHS, win the Eastern Plains Conference Championship and secured the East Regional Championship. With the help of the WDN, the WHS faculty, our families and the community we became Champions in our hearts. It was a great ride!
