JUDY MCLAWHORN | CONTRIBUTED CELEBRATION: On July 24 at 7:30 p.m., the MATTIE Arts Center in Swan Quarter will hold a celebration for the opening of its new ‘down draft’ studio and honor its contributors. In the studio, dedicated to the “dusty” arts and its participants’ respiratory health, workshops will be offered, involving the use of dremel tools, gourd saws and woodbumers for the crafting of walnut jewelry, glass etching, wood burning, gourd art and decoy and wildlife carving. The workshops will begin in August starting with Jimmy Huggins guiding participants through learning how to make those jointless chain link necklaces out of walnut. Pictured is Huggins doing a “shake down” at the new studio last Saturday.
