BATH — With three months under her belt, Jamie Mesrobian is settling into her new role as assistant site manager at Historic Bath State Historic Site.
Mesrobian began work in mid-April after a stint at Tryon Palace in New Bern.
“I find this site to be really nice,” Mesrobian said of Historic Bath. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people, learning new things and experiencing new things. This is going to be a great opportunity for that.”
Along with her stint as an interpreter at Tryon Palace, Mesrobian brings a wealth of experience to Historic Bath. She previously worked as interpreter and museum program assistant with Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and her resume also includes serving as “explainer” at Kensington Palace in London for eight months in 2011. There, she interpreted the history of the palace for visitors and led tours of the “Enchanted Palace” exhibit.
Mesrobian grew up in Baltimore, but at the age of 12 she moved to Williamsburg with her family. Her new home sparked an interest in history, an interest she fostered early on by working and volunteering as tour leader, performer and historic interpreter at the Historic Williamsburg site.
She later attended Longwood University, where she earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in anthropology and the other in history. She completed her Master of Arts degree in public archeology at University College London.
While working as assistant site manager at Historic Bath, Mesrobian’s duties will include supervising full- and part-time staff as well as coordinating the activities of site volunteers. She is also developing and implementing a marketing strategy for promoting the site, utilizing local media outlets as well as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blogging. She also plans to be involved in designing special exhibits touting Bath history.
When not working, Mesrobian finds time to follow sports and pursue a few special interests.
“I’m a fan of Baltimore Orioles baseball and Redskins football,” she noted. “And I love being on the water. I love to travel and I’d like to go back to Europe.”
In the meantime, Mesrobian couldn’t resist bragging a little about her new work home.
“This is a town of firsts,” she said. “We’re gearing up for the ‘First Town, First Port’ celebration, so if you haven’t been to Bath before, now is the time to start coming.”
