Geneva Cox Lupton
July 24, 2014

Geneva Cox Lupton, 91, of New Bern, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Born in Beaufort County in 1923 to the late Joseph Thomas Cox and Lucy Bennett Cox, she was the sixth of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. Both of her parents passed away at an early age and Geneva helped care for her two younger siblings until they became adults. Growing up on a farm, she learned the value of hard work, never shying away from responsibility. In 1944, she married Samuel Adolph Lupton and they shared almost 39 years of marriage together before his passing in 1983. A skilled seamstress, Geneva worked for Sagner’s Sewing Room and Hudson’s Sewing Room for many years before her retirement and continued to mend clothes for her family and friends. In 1984, Geneva left the “old homeplace” where she had grown up and made her home for over 60 years and moved to New Bern. While in New Bern, she enjoyed having weekly yard sales with her friends and volunteering with the Coastal Women’s Shelter at the “Helping Hands” Thrift Store. A strong woman of faith, she served The Lord faithfully for many years and deeply loved her church family at Tree of Life Ministries.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Pollock-Best Funeral Chapel with her Pastor and grandson, Rev. Rex Allen Bennett and her former Pastor, Rev. Kenneth Dixon officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, N.C.

She is survived by her two children, daughter, Joe Ann Spence of New Bern and son, Samuel Adolph Lupton, Jr. and wife, Nettie of Lake Wylie, S.C.; three grandsons, Kenneth Preston Jones and wife, Dawn of New Bern, Rex Allen Bennett and wife, Amanda of New Bern, and Samuel Joseph Lupton and wife, Jennifer of Rock Hill, S.C.; and four great grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Jones, Amanda Jolene “Mandy Jo” Bennett, Alexander Lee Hallowell, and Brooks Allen Bennett.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Kenny & Dawn Jones.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the physicians, nurses, and staff of CarolinaEast Medical Center for the compassionate care provided during Mrs. Lupton’s final days. Special gratitude is also extended to Dr. Christine Bounous and the nurses and staff of Atlantic Internal Medicine for their loving care in recent years.
