Take a walk on the wild side!  The visitor center at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is staffed by and in need of volunteers. If you have a few hours to give or would like to discuss volunteer opportunities please contact Tracey Rock, Volunteer Coordinator, tracey_rock@fws.gov or 252-473-1132 X 227.

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, located in Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties, has over 110,000 acres of beautiful habitat.  This amazing wooded wetland has seasonally large concentrations of waterfowl (such as tundra swans geese and ducks) as well as black bears, mammals, reptiles and amphibians and a variety of birds. The refuge offers many wonderful nature photo opportunities.

To tour the refuge pick up a map at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 205 South Ludington Drive, Columbia.  While at the Visitor Center enjoy the displays of refuge wildlife and habitat. And don’t miss the fully-stocked gift shop where you’ll find books, t-shirts, hats, jewelry, wildlife photography and much more.

We just wanted you to know how impressed we were/are with your refuge and it’s beautifully designed visitor center and boardwalk! Given budgets these days, you deserve lots of accolades! Looking forward to our return.
