ROBERT “TOMMY” ELKS

Mr. Robert Fredrick “Tommy” Elks, age 78, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Friday August 22, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday August 26, 2014 at Wayside Presbyterian Church in Chocowinity officiated by Ola Forbes, Jr. Minister. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington. Pallbearers will be Bill Libergood, Louis Earl Toler, Lloyd Edwards, Tom Forbes, Norm Collins and Jack Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerome Whitehurst and Lloyd Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at Wayside Presbyterian Church and other times at the home of his daughter, Terrie Marsh located at 100 North Teach’s Point, Bath, NC.
Mr. Elks was born in Pitt County on July 9, 1936 son of the late Robert Guy Elks and the late Lillian Irene Sheppard Elks. He was a graduate of Chocowinity before serving his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Elks was the parts manager with Tidewater Equipment Co. in Chocowinity and following his retirement he worked at Sawyer’s Auto Parts Store. He was an avid antique car fan/owner and was past president of Coastal Plains Antique Auto Club for many years. As a talented musician he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and banjo at area nursing homes. Mr. Elks was a member of First Baptist Church of Chocowinity attended Wayside Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his daughter: Terrie E. Marsh and her husband Ben of Bath; a son: Loren Robert Elks of Noblesville, IN and five grandchildren: Case Marsh, B.J. Marsh, Tristyn Elks, Taylor Elks and Nathan Elks.
