BRIAN D. HOPKINS
Sept. 28, 1944 – Aug. 27, 2014

Brian D. Hopkins, 69, of Columbia, NC died Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Columbia, September 28, 1944 he was the son of the late Grady Lawrence and Evelyn Spruill Hopkins.  He was married to the former Gail Pritchett, who survives. He was a member of Soundside Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee for many years as well as Sunday School Secretary and various committiees.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 192 in Columbia for over 30 years where served as Adjutant.  Mr. Hopkins was also a board member for the Tyrrell County Soil and Water Conservation.

Mr. Hopkins loved to farm and go fishing. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and Duke Blue Devils basketball team.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church.  Timothy Hayes will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his wife, surviving are sons, Darryl L. Hopkins and wife Shannon of Columbia and Wesley L Hopkins of Columbia; a daughter, Kristy H. Honeycutt and husband Brandon of Columbia; a brother, Gordon Hopkins and wife Nancy of Raleigh; a sister, Jane H. Hibbs and husband Frank of Asheboro. Also surviving are his grandchildren who he loved to spend time with; Brayden, Jorden, Allie and Lillie Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hopkins.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Soundside Missionary Baptist Church, Attn: Tonya Davenport, 177 Riverneck Rd., Columbia, NC 27925.
The family will receive friends at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church on the day of the service from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
