Mrs. Metta Benson Dunshee, age 99, a resident of 1018 Wilkinson Station Road, Pantego died Thursday morning September 4, 2014.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday September 6, 2014 at Wilkinson Church of Christ officiated by Jon Langley, Robert Spruill and Reggie Braziel. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Her great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Dunshee was born August 8, 1915 daughter of the late Johnnie M. Benson and Sally Cartwright Benson. She was married to Guy Dunshee for 61 years prior to his death in 1998. Mrs. Dunshee was manager of the Pantego High School lunchroom. She was the oldest living member of Wilkinson Church of Christ where she was the pianist and secretary of Sunday School for over 40 years, a member of the ladies’ group, the choir and remained an active member until her death. She loved to sing, crochet, read and visit until her death.
She is survived by her daughter: Janice Kay Baynor and husband Wayne; three granddaughters: Donna Baynor Murphy of Pantego, Jena Baynor Neal of Raleigh and Lisa Dunshee Powell of Fayetteville; her daughter-in-law: Elaine Parker Dunshee Saleeby of Fayetteville; six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, her son, Jason Dunshee preceded her in death in 1964. She is also preceded in death by her sisters: Janie Crumpler, Mildred King, Mona Simpkins and Zola Paul and her brothers: Robert Benson, Charles Benson and John Benson.
The family will receive friends 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday prior to the service at Wilkinson Church of Christ and other times at the home of her daughter located at 125 Beach Road North, Schram’s Beach, Belhaven.
