CHOCOWINITY — More than 200 special visitors dropped in during Chocowinity
Primary School’s Read-In, an early celebration of Grandparents’ Day.
Students and staff were excited to greet their guests during the event, which has become a CPS tradition.
“We enjoyed having grandparents visit our school,” said Principal Alicia Vosburgh. “They are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories and love.”
Students whose grandparents were unable to attend Friday afternoon’s festivities were encouraged to invite other family members and friends to join them for the celebration. Armed with favorite books, they turned out in force to make the day especially memorable for the students.
“We wanted to find a way to welcome all family members, but especially grandparents because they serve as such great role models to many of our students,” said Reading Recovery teacher Lauren Buck. “We want our students to know that reading is something that can be shared from generation to generation no matter what age you are.”
Friday’s Read-In is just one of many special events hosted by CPS throughout the year, each stressing the importance of family.
“We are a ‘family’ at Chocowinity Primary School and we value the love and support from all of our grandparents and know that they play a huge part in helping our students become lifelong readers. Events such as our Read-Ins give our students the opportunity to see someone they love and respect reading books, which will encourage them to pick up a good book and dive right in!”
