Tyson lifts Washington to win

Efficient on-the-court communication has been established, team chemistry seems to be at its peak and a viable defensive and offensive rotation is in place. Yet, Washington head volleyball coach Kelly Slade continues to stress fundamentals and still sees areas that need improvement.
One player in particular has been a constant force on the court this season — senior hitter Adriana Tyson. After a closely contested 3-2 win over the defending Eastern Plains Conference champion on Tuesday, Tyson carried the Pam Pack to a demonstrative 3-0 win over Southwest Edgecombe Thursday evening, improving their conference record to 2-0.
Prior to the game during warm-ups, Slade liked what she saw from her setters. In the first set, sophomore Sarah Lynch hardly missed a beat, setting her teammates up at the front of the net. As a result, Tyson and senior Abby Walker quickly began to rack up kills. Washington recorded 14 kills in the first game en route to a comfortable 25-15 win.
The Pam Pack carried its momentum into Game 2, as Slade again went with her offensive rotation. Lynch continued to record assists and distribute the ball to the heavy hitters. On the back of Tyson’s six kills, Washington powered its way to a 25-16 win.
A 25-14 win in the third game locked up the match and Washington’s second conference win in as many games.
Tyson finished with 17 kills and 16 aces on the night, while Lynch ended with 19 assists.
Washington will face Beddingfield on the road Friday at 5:30 p.m.
