LEON SMITH

Leon Smith passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014. He was a resident of Titusville Florida formerly of Pleasant Garden, NC and was born December 5th 1932 in Salem, Oregon. He was the son of the late Dr. Aaron J. Smith and the late Emma Dressel Smith. In addition he was preceded in death by his three sisters Miriam McNabb, Lois Proctor and Bethel Sawyer. He was survived by his wife of 65 years Edith Shelton Smith, his sons Ardon Jay, Marc and his wife Angela and his brother Ardon. He had 5 grandchildren Alison and husband Paul Gordon, Megan, Aaron, Ryan, and Lia.
Leon was a loving father and a committed husband who enjoyed family activities. He had an infectious sense of humor and a unique flair for playing the piano. His commitment to excellence and compassion for his fellow man made him a natural leader and was well liked by his friends, colleagues and employees.
During his career he served as Plant Manager for Hatteras Yacht Company, President of Harold Marine, Director for Chris Craft Corporation, President of Allied Marine Corporation, President of Fountain Power Boats, and retired as US Sales Representative for Azimut- Benetti Yacht Group of Italy.
Leon was a Member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the American Boat and Yacht Council, past President of the Miami Marine Association and held a US Coast Guard 100 ton Masters license.
Mr. Smith attended The Titusville First Baptist Church, was a member of the Community Church of Greensboro and attended the Pleasant Garden Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held Saturday October 18, at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Grace Baptist Church cemetery on Fairfax Road. The family will receive friends and family at the Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Funeral Home on Friday October 17, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
