Wednesday afternoon, a Beaufort County Schools bus was rear ended, resulting in minor damage and a citation for the driver who struck the bus.
Bus 134 from P.S. Jones Middle School was slowing down to let a student off on Springs Rd. near U.S. Hwy 17 when a full-size truck rear ended it, said Trooper Joseph Howard. Howard was first on the scene at the accident.
Neither of the drivers were hurt, but the driver of the truck was charged with failure to reduce speed, Howard said.
According to Sarah Hodges, public information officer with Beaufort County Schools, three students were transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital for precautionary measures. The rest of the students were taken to the hospital on the same bus, which suffered minor, unnoticeable damage, Hodges said. Parents of the children on the bus had the option of signing their kids out and taking them in to the hospital or taking them home.
Howard said the N.C. State Highway Patrol is still investigating some aspects of the accident.
