Two Northside runners headed to states

YEATESVILLE — Northside Cross Country will send two runners to the State Championship. Sophomore Holden Newman and senior Savannah Bunn will represent the Northside Panthers at Kernersville on Nov. 1.

Holden Newman has stepped into the winner circle on multiple occasions during the cross-country season. He has continued to take top honors within the Coastal Plains Conference as the number one runner. Newman has claimed not only the All-Conference title for the last two seasons, but the Conference Male Runner-of-the-Year for the last two seasons. He will be returning to the 1-A State Championship after placing sixth in the 1-A East Regional Championship. Newman finished with a winning time of 17:45.29 and an All-East title at the Regional Championship. Newman added the title of team captain to his resume this season and his leadership style has established an up and coming group of top performers.

Savannah Bunn has led the way for the Lady Panthers throughout the season. Her leadership as the Northside Lady Panther team captain has established a group of young ladies that will be a competitive force in the future. Savannah has placed a new title on her resume as the All-East winner, finishing in the top seven during the Regional Championship. Savannah finished with a time of 23:39.67 and earned a trip to the 1-A State Championship.

Additionally, the following Panther teammates finished with the following times: Girls — Shana Taylor (25:47); Caitlin Johnson (27:12); Sierra Corley (27:17); Allison Waters (29:30); Emily Box (30:06).

Boys — Braeden Cooper (20:22); Elijah Norton (21:05); Brady Hudnell ( 21:49); Nathaniel Bowen (22:39); Hayden Tankard (22:47).

The Northside girls finished in 5th place overall out of nine complete teams and the boys placed eighth out of 14 complete teams. Twenty schools competed in the 1-A Championship.

NCHSAA State Cross Country Championships will take place at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernsville. The men’s race starts at 3:30 p.m., followed by the women’s race at 4:30 p.m. Admission at the state finals will be $8.00, which will cover a $2 parking fee.
