CHOCOWINITY — The ultimate place to be this Halloween season was deep in the dark woods of a Chocowinity farm.
Raised in a Barn Farm’s inaugural “Six Nights of Fright” far exceeded organizers’ expectations, according to farm owner Jane Boahn. She estimated that more than 1,500 visitors took the hay ride back into the woods and toured the Haunted Trail. Hundreds more enjoyed the offerings at the Lil’ Barn of Boos, which catered to children and their parents and offered a tamer Halloween celebration.
“Six Nights of Fright” debuted Oct. 17 and continued each Friday and Saturday evening through Halloween weekend.
Not only did the event provide a bit of seasonal entertainment, it also helped boost the local economy and garnered much-needed funds for the Chocowinity Fire Department and Angels N Camo, according to Boahn. A portion of the admission proceeds, amounting to thousands of dollars, will be donated to the two non-profit organizations.
Approximately 75 volunteers pitched in to man the exhibits, serve as chauffeurs for the hay ride and otherwise keep the project running smoothly.
This year’s dioramas have yet to be dismantled, but Boahn is already looking ahead to Halloween 2015.
“We hope to triple our numbers next year,” she said.
