MARY P. EYBERS
Aug. 25, 1921 – Oct. 21, 2014
Mary P. Eybers, 93, peacefully passed away on October 21, 2014 in Williamsburg, VA. Mary Elizabeth was born on August 25, 1921 to the late Leonard and Martha (Mattie) Pilley of Terra Ceia, NC. She grew up on her family’s 800 acre farm of soybeans and corn. Her father was a hardworking, all-business type person while her mother took care of their store and focused on her children.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Rosalie Moffett, Dot Sasser of NC, and Helen Pilley of VA. Her husband David passed away February 8, 2014. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Nancy Eybers Aschiero of Williamsburg; and two grandsons, Jason Aschiero (Alicia Baker) and Adam Aschiero (Joe Bishop). She will be sorely missed by her family as a support and guide.
Mary graduated from UNCG in 1942. She and David were married on March 18, 1951 in NC and lived in Montvale, NJ near David’s family until early 1980’s. Before moving to SC, Mary worked for the same pharmaceutical company in Pearl River, NY for 40 years through different owners; first with Lederle Labs, then Wyeth and then with Pfizer. She started as the executive secretary to the President and for the last 6-8 years set up and monitored drug trials in different cities across the country. She retired at 71. They moved to West Point, VA in 2005 to be near their daughter.
Both Mary and Dave were avid and passionate gardeners. Ferns were special and she was a member of the American Fern Society in NYC. She and David had large gardens and finely landscaped yards everywhere they lived. Along with being active in the different music groups Nancy and Dave were involved in, she had a love of fine cooking and the gardening, and her life was very full and rewarding.
A memorial service will take place on November 8 at 2:30pm at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, 8300 Richmond Rd., Toano, VA 23168, with a short reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hickory Neck Music Ministry or Gentiva Hospice, 217 Bulifants Blvd Suite A, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
