The Community Youth Football League came to a close this Saturday with a Greenville Titans (Green) victory over the Belhaven Bulldogs, 8-0.

The first half of the game was a defensive battle, with each team unable to get much traction on offense.

Towards the end of the first quarter, Greenville was on Belhaven’s eight-yard line and threatening to score. However, the Bulldogs defense stiffened up and forced a turnover on downs.

Belhaven had its own opportunity to put some points on the board in the second quarter, but what would have been a long reception ended up being incomplete.

Things didn’t really get going until late in the third quarter. Behind the strength of Chappell Batton’s legs the Titans began to consistently move the chains. Starting on their own 20-yard line, Greenville was able to steadily move the ball down the field. It appeared as if the drive would be thwarted by the Bulldogs with less than 10 yards between them and the goal line. But Drew Sisk was able to bully his way forward on fourth down to keep their hopes alive. A couple plays later, Batton scored to put the Titans ahead, 6-0, with 1:52 remaining in the game. A successful 2-point conversion extended their lead.

Belhaven had one last shot to tie the score and send the game to overtime, but luck wasn’t on their side. An incomplete pass on fourth down gave the ball back to the Titans, who then proceed to run out the clock on their way to victory.

Batton led the way with 18 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown.
