North Carolina Amateur Sports has once again tapped Washington as the host city for the annual Cycle North Carolina Coastal Ride. The ride will be held April 17-19, 2015. This will be Washington’s fourth time hosting this spring event.

The weekend cycling event will feature bicycle routes of varying lengths from 5 miles to 100 miles. The idea behind the annual event is to celebrate the spring cycling season. Participants and their families will enjoy the various recreational opportunities in the area, including the North Carolina Estuarium, kayaking on the Pamlico, Goose Creek State Park, and Historic Bath.

Locally, the Washington Tourism Development Authority will be coordinating details for the weekend. Those details include volunteer recruitment, permit logistics, lodging, and participant activities.

During the weekend there will be several opportunities for community and civic groups to become involved, and possibly earn some money. The WTDA is currently seeking the following:

· Campsite breakfast/coffee vendors

· Rest stop volunteers (can sell baked goods or other foods)

· Rental houses or rooms for cyclists.

The Cycle North Carolina Coastal Ride is fully supported with vehicles available to aid cyclists who experience physical or mechanical breakdowns. Rest stops will be set up every 10-25 miles along each route for riders to get off their bikes and explore, while quenching their hunger and thirst.

Cycle North Carolina is presented by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Tourism. Partner organizations of Cycle North Carolina include: Powerade, Capitol Broadcasting Company, Harris Teeter, the N.C. Department of Transportation and Cycling Spoken Here.
