Mr. Stonie Dale Woolard, age 73, a resident of 189 Belgian Lane, Washington, died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the First Church of Christ in Washington, conducted by Steve Hill, Linwood Adams and Eddie Gurganus. Burial will follow in the Woolard Family Cemetery on Belgian Lane, Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Paul Mizelle, David Mizelle, Rodney Woolard, Phil Garris, Chris Gillis and Horace Miller.
Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on September 20, 1941. He was the son of the late Worthy Woolard and Stella Rosaline Spain Woolard. Mr. Woolard worked 47 ½ years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He retired as Assistant District Engineer for Pitt and Beaufort Counties. Known as a “workaholic”, he farmed in his spare time and enjoyed raising horses and goats as well as vegetables that he shared with friends and family. Mr. Woolard attended First Church of Christ in Washington.
Mr. Woolard is survived by the mother of his children, Merdieth Lilley Woolard of Washington; his children: Jerry Dale Woolard, Bradford Lee Woolard and wife, Jeanell, and Melinda Woolard Arnold and husband, Andrew all of Washington; four grandchildren: Jody Dale Arnold, Amy Elizabeth Arnold, Ashlynn Miranda Woolard and Braxton Lee Woolard; one brother: James Worthy Woolard and wife, Carolyn of Washington; four sisters: Joyce Mizelle, Shirley Ann Taylor, Genevieve Gillis and husband, Mike all of Washington, Stella Marie Adams and husband, Linwood of Pantego; sister-in-law: Gloria Woolard of Washington; 16 nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Carolyn Mayo.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Woolard was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Alma and Earl Woolard; two brothers: Dewey Woolard and Jerry Paul Woolard; nephew: James Anthony Woolard; and two brothers-in-law: Charlie Mizelle and Glenn Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the First Church of Christ Life Center and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jeanell Woolard, 228 Belgian Lane, Washington.
