Lillian Houston Edwards, 93, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at River Trace Nursing Home.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 3pm in the Smith Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Hardee Family Cemetery.

Lillian, a hard working farmer’s wife, was a caregiver who worked multiple jobs outside the home to care for her family.  She was a devoted church worker serving in several capacities at Life Gate Baptist Church and Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Stanley Edwards; daughter, Patricia Annette Garris; and a son, Joseph W. Edwards.

She is survived by her sons, James Stanley Edwards and wife, Carol of Willow Springs, Robert Allen Edwards of Washington, Donald H. Edwards and wife, Sheryl of Burgaw; and Jerry W. Edwards and wife, Kay of Vanceboro; 14 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and a brother, JP Houston of Holly Ridge.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930-A Wellness Dr, Greenville, NC 27834.
