GARY B. MAYO

May 13, 1951 – December 22, 2014

 

Gary Benson Mayo, 63, a resident of 824 Puddin Hill Road, Scranton NC passed away, December 22, 2014.

A private funeral was held on December 23, 2014 at his home on Puddin Hill Road.

Gary was born on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1951, while his family was Bee Farming in Winchester, Tennessee. Returning back home to grow up in the Rose Bay Community, he was the son of the late Troy Wilson Mayo and Thompsa “Tommie” Emory Mayo.

He worked as a carpenter in his early years with his father. In 1973 he bought his first boat and became a Commercial Fisherman and spent the rest of his life on or around the water. He was a partner in Mattamuskeet Seafood from 1984 to 1998.

In 1983 he established Mayo’s Commercial Fish Supply. During oyster season, he could always be found at the Rose Bay Oyster House selling oysters and sharing stories of the good old days.

Surviving are his wife Jacklyn Elaine Carawan Mayo, one son Zeb Benson Mayo; one sister Brenda Armstrong of Manteo and one brother T. Lane Mayo of Scranton; numerous nieces and nephews he deeply loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents Troy Wilson Mayo and Thompsa “Tommie” Mayo and a special nephew Neill Carawan and a special brother-in-law and business partner Gene Carawan.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O Box 70, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885
